Introduction

As a member of Intel® IoT Solutions Alliance, SpinetiX collaborates with third-party player manufacturers to bring our digital signage technology and expertise to users relying on Intel-based architectures.

Our partners can provide various players running SpinetiX’s DSOS™ (Digital Signage Operating System) and with built-in access to SpinetiX ARYA™ cloud CMS.

Compatible devices

The following third-party hardware devices are compatible with DSOS™ by SpinetiX™:

Troubleshooting

Common issues

  • 4K resolution HDMI cable
A High-Speed HDMI cable is required for the player to output a 4K @ 60Hz resolution.
  • Dual display
Although some players might feature two HDMI outputs, those cannot be used at the same time - if both are connected, one of the screens will display a screen graphic with an X in the middle. The video output connector to be used can be configured from Control Center > Display settings.
  • Secure BIOS access
It is recommended to secure the access to BIOS with a strong admin/supervisor password.
Securing the access to BIOS will also prevent users to access the Boot Menu, unless explicitly allowed.
  • BIOS updates
Any BIOS updates released by the devices' manufacturer must be manually installed - they are not covered by the DSOS updates.

Power button

The power button function has been extended as follows:

  • Briefly press and release to trigger On-Screen Display (OSD) showing the firmware version, network addresses, and serial number
  • Do that twice to trigger a soft device shutdown
  • Press and hold for 4 seconds to trigger a hard shutdown (equivalent to a power cycle)

Reset to factory default settings

A factory reset, also known as master reset, is a software restoring of an electronic device to its original system state by erasing all the information stored on the device in an attempt to restore the device to its original manufacturer settings. A factory reset should be performed with caution, as it effectively erase all the data and settings that were previously on the device.

To reset a configured player to factory default settings, follow these steps:

  1. Connect a keyboard to one of the player's USB ports.
  2. Reboot the player.
  3. Enter the Boot Menu at system startup.
    • The key to press varies depending on the BIOS - usually it is F10 for Intel, F12 for Seneca, F7 for ECS, Simply NUC Everglades 2 and Sharp/NEC SDM
  4. Select "SpinetiX DSOS menu" option (the one without redundant boot).
  5. Select "Reset to factory defaults" option.
  6. Press "y" key, then "Enter", to confirm.
  7. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot the player and perform the reset.
Note Note:
A factory reset doesn't revert the device's firmware - see below how to do that.

Boot into Recovery mode

Note Note:
The IP address of the player is needed below - before rebooting the player, get its current IP address, for instance using the power button, and write it down. You can also use the hostname address of the player: spx-dsos-{Serial_Number}, where {Serial_Number} must be replaced with the full serial number of the device.

To boot the player into Recovery mode, follow these steps:

  4. Select "SpinetiX DSOS menu" option.
  5. Select "Recovery" option. Wait for the player to reboot.
  6. Enter the IP address in a browser and access the Recovery Console.
  7. Once entered, you can either revert to factory default firmware or download the latest firmware package and install it.
