Introduction

The players' system reliability is dependent upon a stable environment. The design of your installation must ensure that each player can operate reliably while remaining within the range of its operating specifications, and that they are protected from excessive vibration and shock. The players should NOT be installed & operated in direct sunlight, nor stacked one on top of the other.

Environmental specifications

The environmental specifications are listed below for each player model.

HMP400, HMP400W HMP350, HMP300, DiVA HMP200 HMP130, HMP100
Storage temperature -4ºF to 122ºF / -20ºC to 50ºC -13ºF to 113ºF / -25ºC to 45ºC
Operating ambient temperature 32ºF - 104ºF / 0ºC - 40ºC
Relative humidity (RH) 10-90% non-condensing
Maximum operating altitude 10,000 ft (ca. 3,048 m)
Note Notes:
  • These specifications might seem broad, however, the operating ranges apply to the absolute hardware limits and the extreme ranges should not be considered guidelines for normal, continuous operation.
  • Relative humidity (RH) is the amount of moisture in a given sample of air at a given temperature in relation to the maximum amount of moisture that a sample could contain at the same temperature. A volume of air at a given temperature can hold a certain amount of moisture. Because air is a gas, it expands as it is heated. As air gets warmer, its volume increases and the amount of moisture it can hold increases, thus causing its relative humidity to decrease.
  • Different environmental factors can affect the drift induced by the internal clock of the player.
  • Make sure to correctly power off the HMP / power off DiVA.

The power consumption above has been measured in normal conditions - the actual values may vary based on the workload and environment.

High-temperature protection CPU thermal throttling Automatic shutdown None

The SpinetiX players, from the HMP200 model onwards, are featuring a sensor that monitors the device internal board temperature. This temperature is measured inside the player - it is not the external case temperature, nor the ambient one! The internal temperature is influenced by the surrounding environment temperature, the heat dissipation grade, but also by the content being rendered - the higher the complexity, the more CPU usage, and thus more heat being generated.

The internal temperature is displayed within Control Center under:

The internal board temperature can also be retrieved through the Status API and the get_info RPC command.

Automatic shutdown

When the internal temperature reaches the selected shutdown temperature level - normal or maximum - the device shuts down in order to cool down; when the internal temperature has lowered below the threshold value, the device automatically restarts. The same process will happen, if the internal temperature rises again.

By default, the shutdown temperature is set to normal (55ºC / 131ºF); you can increase this to maximum (70ºC / 158ºF) from Control Center:

CPU thermal throttling

On HMP400/HMP400W, the protection mechanism is different - it is based on the dynamic frequency scaling (also known as CPU throttling), whereby the frequency of the microprocessor is automatically adjusted "on the fly" when its internal temperature is closing up to 105ºC / 221 °F to reduce the amount of heat generated by the chip. But taken into account that the CPU is functioning in industrial mode (limited to 6.5W), this temperature cannot be reached even at 40ºC operating environment. Yet, if the latter is higher, which should be avoided of course, then the CPU frequency will be automatically be lowered (the performance might be affected!), but the player will not shut down.
