Description

USB Video Capture Input enables your HMP400/W, iBX410/W, iBX440, and third-party DSOS players to display audio/video from USB-connected capture devices, such as cameras or HDMI capture cards. This feature is useful for incorporating live camera feeds or external video sources into your signage content.

This feature was first introduced in DSOS 4.7.1; enhancements were made in DSOS 4.7.2 to improve compatibility with USB video capture devices, and the HDMI capture functionality was expanded to include support for RAW mode. A video input layer button was added in Elementi 2021 Update 7 to facilitate the use of the video capture feature in the digital signage content. High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) protected video-in signal is not supported.

This is a plug-and-play feature, so it doesn't require a particular configuration on the player side to enable it. In case multiple USB audio/video capture devices are plugged (using a USB hub), they can be referenced through identifiable indexes assigned from Control CenterPeripherals ⇾ Capture or by using a configuration file. Note that the number of videos that can be decoded and displayed at the same time is nonetheless limited.

Known issues

  • The input from some cameras, such as Logitech ConferenceCam Connect and Logitech C930e, might not work correctly when using the MJPEG format. The workaround is to switch to YUYV 640x360 30 fps raw capture or to use webpage streaming (WebRTC).
  • The video-in capture playback might stop after a few hours on some devices, like ATEN CamLive Uc3020 and Elgato Cam Link 4K, when connected to the USB port dedicated for Display Port video output. In such cases, it's recommended to connect the source to another USB port, like the one for analog audio output.
  • The playback of content captured by the USB video input device is not working properly in firmware 4.7.6 - the video might be missing and the audio is distorted.
