Installation
First, take out the HMP400 player from its box. There are no video or network cables inside the box. An external USB-C power supply can be purchased separately, if PoE is not available.
Step 1: Connect the screen
The HMP400 can output the video signal either over HDMI 2.0 (UHD) or DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode over USB-C. It is not possible to activate both video outputs concurrently.
HDMI
You need a display with an HDMI type A (female) connector and an HDMI cable (not included).
- Connect one end of the video cable to the HDMI port of your player.
- Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI port of the display.
DisplayPort
You need a display with a DisplayPort receptacle, and a matching USB-C to DisplayPort cable (not included).
- Connect one end of the video cable to the second USB-C port of your player - the one marked with DP++ logo.
- Connect the other end of the cable to the DisplayPort receptacle of the display.
Step 2: Connect the network
To connect the player to the wired network, you need a standard RJ45 Ethernet cable (not included).
- Connect one end of the RJ45 cable to the Ethernet port of your player.
- Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to a network port (female connector) of a network switch or a computer (direct connection).
- In case of direct connection, if the computer doesn't support Gigabit Ethernet, then use an Ethernet crossover cable.
Step 3: Connect the power
The player can be powered over Ethernet (PoE+ / 802.3at) or by using an external USB-C power supply (power delivery 2.0, 27W, min 3A@9V) - although both are supported, it is recommended to use one method or the other.
For the PoE, make sure to connect the Ethernet cable to a PoE port of the switch and then switch on the screen.
For the external power supply, follow these steps:
- Connect the USB-C connector attached to the PSU to the USB-C port (marked with the DC symbol ⎓ ) next to the HDMI port.
- Connect the PSU plug into a power outlet.
- Switch on the screen and the LAN-Switch or computer.
Boot-up
The player's LEDs should light up at this point, a sign that the player is receiving power and is starting the boot-up process. During the boot-up, a splash screen is shown on the screen, first at 640x480 resolution, then at the screen's resolution.
Once the player has finished booting up, the System LED should blink green and the screen will display something like this:
- If the Power LED doesn't light up at all, then there is a problem with the power supply. If PoE is used, make sure the Ethernet cable is good and connected to a PoE port of the switch. If the external USB-C power supply is used, try a working PSU from another SpinetiX player or switch to PoE instead.
- If any of the LEDs turn red, with or without blinking, then there is a problem - see the LED page for more details.
- If you cannot see anything on the screen, follow these troubleshooting steps.
